New Publication

The new issue of Espazium Quaderni, Città sospese – Waiting Cities, curated by Hind Al-Shoubaki, approaches emergency not as a temporary interruption of ordinary life, but as an architectural and urban form that produces space. Across Zaatari, Al-Wehdat, Gaza and other contexts of displacement, the issue examines how emergency generates territories, infrastructures, legal and spatial boundaries, systems of control, and new forms of inhabitation. It explores how shelters become neighborhoods, how camps urbanize over time, and how reconstruction operates as a contested spatial and political project that shapes possibilities for return, belonging, participation, and future-making. Bringing together architects, planners, researchers and practitioners, the issue questions the responsibilities of architecture and planning when provisional conditions become enduring urban realities, and when design decisions contribute to inclusion, exclusion, care, memory and the transformation of places.
